Passage 1
Campus Notice Boards
Many students pay little attention to notice boards on campus because they think important information will always reach them through social media. This belief is risky. Notice boards often carry the first official version of exam schedules, classroom changes and scholarship announcements.
Another reason students ignore them is that the boards seem crowded and old-fashioned. Yet that crowded appearance may hide useful details. A careful reader can often find deadlines, office hours and contact information in a few minutes. Those details may save hours of confusion later.
For language learners, notice boards are also good reading materials. The texts are short, practical and repeated in similar forms. Students can learn how formal information is organized and become more familiar with common campus vocabulary.

Passage 2
Guessing Words from Context
Strong readers do not stop at every unfamiliar word. Instead, they decide whether the word is central to the sentence or only a small detail. If the sentence still makes sense without that word, they keep reading and return only if necessary.
When a new word appears in an important sentence, readers look for clues around it. A contrast word such as “but” may suggest the new word has an opposite meaning to the previous idea. An example introduced by “for instance” may explain the meaning more directly. Even punctuation sometimes helps. A dash or a pair of commas may contain a short explanation.
This habit does not make guessing perfect, but it makes reading faster and calmer. In many exams, a reasonable guess is enough to answer the question correctly.
